LOTTO SCOT WINS £5.5M AND DOESN'T KNOW
By Keith Mcleod

A SCOTS lottery-player is sitting on a £5.5million jackpot - and doesn't even know it yet.

The mystery winner, from North Lanarkshire, put on a ticket for the National Lottery draw on September 10 and selected the six correct numbers.

That entitles them to a £5,476,246 fortune, but they haven't claimed the prize yet.

The jackpot is the biggest-ever unclaimed jackpot in Scotland. And yesterday, Camelot spokesman Fabian Devlin appealed to players to check their tickets.

He said: "Scotland appears to be a really lucky area at the moment with so many winners.

"Only this week, Andrew and Doreen McAllister from Biggar celebrated a big win on EuroMillions. We would like to add a few more winners to this list by uniting mystery ticketholders with their money.

"This massive £5.5million prize could make a huge difference to somebody's life and we are very hopeful that the ticket-holder will come forward in time."

To jog the winner's mind, Camelot pointed out that September 10 was the day of the North Lanarkshire farmers' market.

The winning Lotto numbers were 1, 8, 24, 27, 34 and 46 and the lucky ticket-holder has until 5.30pm on March 9, 2006, to make their claim.

Anyone who believes they may have a winning ticket for any of the National Lottery draws within the 180-day deadline should call 0845 910 0000.

Yesterday, Elvis fan Bill Potter, of Combe, Devon, collected a cheque for £11.7million after winning on the Spanish lottery.

Bachelor Bill, 60, flew first class to Vancouver, Canada, to pick up his cheque for 17,391,507 euros - the biggest- ever single win on the lottery.

He said: "I'm flabbergasted. "I've been single all my life. Who knows, I might be able to find Miss Right."

"When I heard I'd won I thought it was a hoax. The vice-president of the firm phoned me to say it was perfectly true and it was arranged for me to fly over and get it.

"It was a limousine, champagne, flowers - the lot. I felt like royalty."
