What is Spanish El Gordo?

El Gordo  (which means ‘the Big One’) is Spain’s biggest annual lottery. Held every year on the 22nd December, the spectacle brings the country to a virtual standstill while the drawing itself takes several hours to complete.  The winnings are huge: over €2.5 Billion in prize money is up for grabs, 180 first prizes of €4 Million each are waiting to be claimed, and 2,754,720 prizes in all are being given away in a single day. As if that wasn’t astounding enough - odds to win are better than 1 in 7 and you can win up to 7 times on one ticket. Now those are some lucky numbers indeed.

Why is this lottery ticket different?

These special once-a-year draws are technically ‘lotteries’ (as opposed to ‘lottos’) because only a finite number of tickets are printed. And when they are gone, they’re gone! Each ticket carries a 5-digit number and is split up into ten sections – known as ‘decimas’. These decimas make it even easier to get a piece of the action. You can get yourself one decima, or as many full tickets as you like, it’s up to you.

How can I play?

Sign up for email alerts and we’ll let you know well in advance. Only a certain amount of tickets are ever made available and we work hard to make sure you get your chance as early as possible.

What if I want to play other games too?

With ELG, you can select any game you want, as long as you are not a resident of that country. (In other words, a resident of Spain cannot play the Spanish El Gordo through ELG.) You can choose the games that suit your fancy and play as many as you wish!

How do I play with a group?

In addition to individual tickets, ELG also offers syndicate play. This allows you to maximize your chances of winning while minimizing your costs. Groups can range in size, from 8 to 250 players. To find out more, please call, email or click on Live Support at any time.

How do I know if I’ve won?

There’s nothing better than knowing you’ve won! If you’ve won €1000 or more in any draw, we’ll telephone you as soon as possible to share the happy news! At the end of your play period, we always send you a Final Statement showing your total prize money won. You also receive a complete list of winning numbers so you can see the draw results for yourself.

How do I get my winnings?

Winnings are included with your Final Statement (sent automatically to you when your current play period ends) in the form of a cheque, bank draft, money order or applicable financial instrument for your country. (Total wins of less than £10 for British Lotto, or €10 for all other games, will be deposited directly to your ELG account and are available upon request at any time.) Of course, we are always happy to make any special arrangements you may require for receiving your prize money. For your convenience, we can also convert winnings to most major national currencies at the prevailing exchange rate. Don’t forget, with ELG you are guaranteed to receive the full value of all the prizes you win, with no taxes deducted and no additional fees of any kind.
