Lottery winner of 11,178,334 gets a new lease on life
Date: 11th August 2010 Time: 18:43:23 GMT + 1
When Peter Redikin of Cheadle Heath sat down to check his numbers for the British Lotto's draw of 4th August, he thought he'd won £10. Then he checked again and discovered that he and his wife, Jacqueline, had matched all 6 numbers for a jackpot win, qualifying them for £11,178,334.
The shock was almost too much. "I was dumbstruck. I was shaking and crying. I didn't believe it at first." Mr. Redikin's initial reaction was to call his wife at work. When he told her they'd won the jackpot, she didn't believe it either.
Eventually, however, the good news did sink in, and the Redikins set to work making plans for their future as multi-millionaires. For Mr Redikin, the huge lotto win means that he'll be able to have surgery to repair a knee he injured in a workplace accident 15 years ago, which has kept him out of work ever since. As a jackpot winner, he can now easily afford the surgery to correct the injury. He stated, "I will be able to do things I haven't been able to do since my accident and can have an active lifestyle again." Also on the list are taking care of family, a new car, a trip on the Orient Express and perhaps season tickets to watch the Reds.
The Redikins have been playing the British Lotto faithfully since the game was created in 1994. Furthermore, they've always played the same number combination -- 14, 17, 22, 24, 38, 43. This time, it finally paid off.
